In Conversation with Samiksha about Her Journey and Special Needs

In conversation with Samiksha about her journey and special needs.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Samiksha Nair. I am 18 years old. I am currently doing Grade 12th from NIOS Board.

What are your hobbies and interests?

My hobbies are listening to music and watching movies. My favourite actor is Leonardo Di Caprio. I have watched many of his movies. My favourite movies are Titanic and Inception.

What are your dreams and goals?

I wish to become an actor and act in Hollywood movies. I plan to do acting courses after my Grade 12.

How has your journey been so far?

It has been a tough journey for me. I had a lot of anxiety and meltdowns because I did not know how to deal with my issues. I also a faced bullying when I was younger but now I have learnt to deal with it.

What are the challenges you have faced in your journey?

I faced a lot of challenges, especially academics because I found it difficult to cope with studies. Finally, I joined a special school. The teachers there were very kind and helpful and understood my problems. I passed my Grade X from that school.

What has helped you in your journey?

My friends who face similar challenges like me and have accepted me have really helped me in my journey (My friends from Club Youngistan and Buddy Center). My teachers, my parents, my brother and my other family members and friends who have always loved me and cared for me have also made my journey easier.

What do you think would help people with special needs in their journey?

Talking and connecting with families who have children with special needs. Having support groups to meet and spend time also really helps. Making people aware about different special needs so that they are kind to the children.

What message would you like to give people with special needs and their family and friends?

I would like to tell my special needs friends that they can make all their dreams come true by working hard and should never give up. To the families, I would like to say, be patient and kind to the children so that they become confident. Also encourage them to take part in activities of their choice so that they feel happy and make their dreams come true.
